Building plans for our new classroom space have been finalised and the change in season is begging for more mud bricks to be made soon. We are looking forward to creating a new space here at Rocklands that provides for the growing demand for environmentally conscious learning experiences and the exponentially growing Seed bank.   The materials that we will be using in the construction process will demonstrate the use of waste and natural materials that are locally available.

Brickmaking with the CPUT students

If you would like to be part of this process please e-mail calvin@seed.org.za. We are looking for any information regarding waste streams within the cape flats region, and we’d love you to come in and assist us in the building processes which will include work shops in mud brick production in the coming months. Stay tuned to the SEED facebook page for dates.

Making bricks is fun too!

The gardens at Rocklands continue to thrive thanks to Brian and Toni’s hard work, however extra hands are always needed and we are also looking for volunteers/trainees to work alongside Brian and Toni in the food gardens and nursery at Rocklands Urban Abundance Centre. Your work in the gardens will be interspersed with short training sessions covering things such as compost making, worm farming, crop rotations etc.  If you are interested please e-mail brian.joffin@gmail.com.
