Zoar E.K. Primary School recently received a cheque for R15 000 from the National School Feeding Programme for their veggie garden which won the best vegetable garden prize in the Karoo gardens category.
Situated between Ladismith and Calitzdorp in the Klein Karo, Zoar E.K. Primary is a rural school of approximately 350 students that has been a part of the National School Feeding Programme since 2003. Marlize Maritz of SEED started working with Zoar E.K in 2011 designing and implementing an organic vegetable garden, a herb garden, a compost heap and a worm farm.
Much love and hard work from school staff as well as additional labour supplied by the Department of Correctional Services via offenders doing community service , has enabled the vegetable garden to thrive, despite being located in a the harsh, dry conditions of the Klein Karoo. Well done Zoar E.K Primary School!
